About International Group B Strep Awareness Month

Each year in July Group B Strep International sponsors International Group B (GBS) Awareness Month to focus on educating pregnant women about the leading cause sepsis and meningitis in newborns. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.), 25% of pregnant women are at risk or carriers. GBS infects babies during pregnancy and during their first months of life. GBS can cause miscarriages, stillborn and premature birth. Many children who contract GBS become quite sick, suffer from lifelong handicaps, or die.
