About National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness-Prevention Month

"National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention Month occurs each July and is sponsored by AmeriFace and cleftAdvocate.

Cleft and craniofacial conditions affect thousands of infants, children, teens and adults in the United States each year.  Some are born with congenital anomalies like cleft lip and palate, others with more complex, life-threatening craniofacial conditions.  Some are burned; others are injured in accidents and animal attacks, or diagnosed with various oral/head/neck and skin diseases. 

Picture: Angieleca Hayahay of the Philippines was born with a cleft lip. When she was denied a job as a nurse because of her cleft lip, she had surgery. Today she works as a nurse helping others overcome Cleft & Craniofacial disfigurement.
