About the American Comedy Awards
Created in 1987 the American Comedy Awards" honors those who have achieved new heights during the past year in both film and television, and pays tribute to some of comedy's most enduring personalities. Nominations for the awards were voted on by members of the "American Comedy Awards" Voting Committee, a panel consisting of 860 working professionals from the comedy community including writers, performers, producers, directors and stand-up comedians. The award is called “The Lucy”, so named in 1989, after the death of comic legend Lucille Ball.
