About International Digestive Motility Awareness Month
International Digestive Motility Awareness Month in May originates in Canada and is the counterpart to the August event which honors National Digestive Motility Awareness Month in various states. Some choose May for this event (which is also National Digestive Diseases Month). Whilst others focus their efforts on August, when fewer events compete for attention. (May and October are the two busiest months of the year for promotions and events).
The purpose of Digestive Motility Awareness Month is to educate the healthcare community , patients and the general public regarding the serious nature of digestive motility diseases and disorders. Currently 20 to 30 percent of North American population experiences bothersome upper or lower digestive tract motility disturbances on a chronic basis.
